August 29, 2009, Banff, Alberta
The summit is 9,836 feet, 2,998 meters
Vertical climb is 4,800 feet, 1,460 meters!
This is an amazing climb. The scenery, terrain is so spectacular. Well worth the
7 hours going up and 3 1/2 hours coming down. Everything is so unique on this
climb. We highly recommend as it leads to further challenges. Next Mt. Rundle.
It was a little hazy due to smoke from fires in BC building up in early afternoon.
The view of Cascade mountain from Banff Avenue looking north

East side of Cascade heading west along #1 highway

Path through the forest is steep and rough with tree roots and rocks

The last tree on the tree line 4 hours into the hike, which includes time for a lunch stop

Patrick made a high altitude friend

Looking down on Mt. Norquay Ski Resort (and parking lot where we
started the climb) and you can see the type of rock we were hiking over

The 3 milestones - we are near top of First Peak, next is False Peak
and main summit - 2 and a half hours to go over the roughest parts

We did a little mountain climbing - steep and breath taking

Starting the False Peak climb around
Tanner looking at the very narrow path along the side of False Peak

The last snow of the year from winter, so snowballs anyone?

The summit at 9,836 feet, or 2,998 meters, looking east with
Lake Minnewanka 4,850 feet or 1,500 meters below us

The very pleased team at the top, Robert, Bruce, Tanner, Patrick

Looking back to trail to get to peak - False Peak and First Peak

Looking north to 2 of Cascades other peaks

Tanner, Robert and Patrick, another mountain to add to list of summits reached

Robert taking a break before heading back down

On the way down, some of the spectacular rocks to climb over and around.

Almost down, last look back at False Peak & the Summit, a great way to spend a day What we learned: watch the time. We left the parking lot at
9:00 am and got back at 8:00 pm, just as it was getting dark.
